Fayetteville chef to compete on new Food Network show

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — An Arkansas chef and owner of a Fayetteville restaurant is set to be a contestant on a new Food Network series.

Maudie Schmitt, owner and executive chef at Cafe Rue Orleans in Fayetteville will appear on the "Supermarket Stakeout" premiere that airs on Tuesday, August 13 at 9 p.m.

The show is hosted by Iron Chef Alex Guarnaschelli. Four chefs will compete in a cooking competition with three elimination rounds.

Each contestant will get $500 to buy groceries from real shoppers who are leaving the grocery store.

Every round of the competition has a theme and a kicker. The winning chef will receive $10,000.

"It was a great experience to be able to cook and represent Fayetteville in the challenge. I never thought I’d make it to a national show like Supermarket Stakeout and I wanted to showcase my personality and my Southern cooking style. I competed against a chef who has been on Top Chef twice, a chef cooking in New York, and a young chef from Cleveland who is about to open his own place. We all came together to show what we do best....cook our hearts out," Schmitt said.

Tune in on Tuesday to see Schmitt on the season premiere.
